Saturday is Pi Day, but it won’t be an ordinary annual observation of the mathematical constant. It’s once in a century because the first nine numbers beyond the decimal point occur sequentially in the date and time (although pi is calculated to more than 1 trillion digits beyond its decimal point). To celebrate, Dr. Melony Shemberger is organizing a Pi Day 5K, which will begin at 9:26.53 a.m., Saturday at Calloway County High School in Murray, Kentucky. No entry fee, no awards, but let’s make this a community service endeavor. Donations of canned/nonperishable food items or children’s books will be accepted. The food will be donated to Need Line, and books will be donated to Murray State’s Phi Kappa Phi chapter’s book drive. Please be at CCHS by 9:20 a.m., so we can do a group photo and brief explanation of the run course. Be there! It will be epic!
