Russ and I had the pleasure of working behind the scenes at the 5th Annual Wilma Rudolph 10K and 5K Road Race this past Saturday, June 19. We raced both events, but on the Friday evening, we helped with stuffing packets and slicing oranges and bagels. We are new members of the Clarksville Running Club, organizers of the races, and we jumped in quickly to become active with this great group of runners and supporters. Then at 3:30 a.m. on race morning, we got up and were out the door by 4:30 to help create the finish chute. Russ and I make a great team, and that was proven again with the chute construction. We really enjoyed ourselves — not just racing, but seeing how a race is put together by hard-working volunteers. I’ve been toying with the idea of entering race management/directing, and this gave me a boost in knowing that I can be a part of this.
Once I receive results from the Wilma Rudolph races, I will post them. There were some tough competitors Saturday, and Russ and I were proud to be among them and finishing well. Congratulations to everyone who finished! That’s the important thing. And as always, if anyone has any race news or results to share, make sure to send them my way.
